Privacy

Kaidashi counts its visits anonymously, to know what travellers use and what is missing. No cookie, no account, nothing that could tell who you are.

What we count

  • Visits and pages viewed, by hour, with the page type (home, map, shop page…).
  • Shops, vending machines, cities and areas looked at, searches typed on the map (searches that look like an email or a phone number are dropped), categories picked, direction and website buttons used.
  • For each visit, taken one by one and never put together: device type (phone, tablet, computer), system (iOS, Android…), browser family, whether Kaidashi is installed as an app, language and region set in your browser, time zone, local hour and day, light or dark theme, the website you came from (its name only), and whether you have visited before.
  • When you share your location: whether you are in Japan, and the nearest city (Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya or elsewhere). Never your position.

How

Each of these is a counter that goes up by one ("+1 visit from an iPhone this hour"). Counters are never linked to each other or to a person: there is no identifier, and your IP address is not stored. Only Kaidashi’s editors can read them, and they are not shared or sold.

What we never collect

  • Your exact position: it stays on your device and is only used to show the map around you.
  • Your IP address, a user identifier, a browsing history, a profile.
  • Anything from other websites: no advertising or social network tracker.

When you report something on a shop page

  • You send what you picked (“still right”, “closed”, “wrong hours”…) and, if you want, a short message. No account, no name, no email.
  • To tell three different people from one person reporting three times, the server computes a code from your IP address, the day and a secret. The code cannot give your IP address back, changes every day, is never shown to the team, and is erased after 30 days. Your IP address itself is not stored.
  • Messages are read by Kaidashi’s editors to correct the page. Do not write personal information in them.

What stays on your device

  • Your theme choice, and when you last dismissed the location card.
  • The month of your last visit (to tell new visits from returning ones), kept 13 months at most.
  • A flag that lasts until you close the tab, so a visit is counted once.
  • The reports you sent in the last 30 days (to show “thanks” again), and your choice below if you turn counting off.

Your choice

Counting is anonymous and exempt from consent under the French data protection authority’s (CNIL) conditions for audience measurement, but you can turn it off at any time. It is also off when your browser sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”.

Services we rely on

  • Supabase (servers in Tokyo) stores the shop data and the counters.
  • Netlify hosts the website; like any host, it sees technical requests.
  • OpenFreeMap serves the map background: your browser asks it for map tiles directly.
  • YouTube (privacy-enhanced mode, youtube-nocookie.com) plays the videos of some guides, only when you tap play: nothing is loaded from YouTube before.

Editor accounts

Only Kaidashi’s editors have an account (email and password, through Supabase), to update shop pages.

Your rights

The counters hold no personal data. For any question about your data, a contact address will be published here before the public launch.
