Square Enix: the real places

Three rooms you can sit down in, which is rarer than it sounds: the themed café is the most perishable thing in this whole category, and Square Enix's own Akihabara café closed in March 2025. What is left is ARTNIA, the shop and café under the company's Shinjuku office, and the two Eorzea Cafes, which Pasela runs under licence and which are built as Final Fantasy XIV taverns — the Akihabara one directly under the Monster Hunter bar in the same building. None is reservation-only, all three recommend booking, and all three charge before you order: a cover that comes with a coaster or a magnet, which is the Japanese themed-café bargain stated plainly.

  1. Café · Rules of its own

    FINAL FANTASY EORZEA CAFE, Akihabara

A Final Fantasy XIV tavern on the second floor, directly under the Monster Hunter bar in the same Pasela building — two licensed game bars stacked on each other, three minutes from the station. The menu is named out of Eorzea and the cover charge comes with a job coaster you choose.

    Address
    東京都千代田区外神田1-1-10 パセラリゾーツAKIBAマルチエンターテインメント2F
    Getting there
JR Akihabara, Electric Town exit, about 3 min on foot

Open 10:45 to 23:00 every day, on a 90-minute table. Three minutes from the Electric Town exit, and the Monster Hunter bar is one floor up.

Rules of its own. 1,200 yen per person to sit down, which includes a drink and the coaster. Not reservation-only, but the operator recommends booking, and a weekend evening without one usually means waiting.

  2. Café · Rules of its own

    FINAL FANTASY EORZEA CAFE, Dotonbori

The Osaka tavern, on the fifth floor of the Dotonbori Pasela — one floor above the Monster Hunter bar, the same stacking as Akihabara. Weekdays have no time limit on the table here, which the Tokyo one does not offer.

    Address
    大阪府大阪市中央区道頓堀1-4-27 パセラリゾーツなんば道頓堀店5F
    Getting there
Namba, about 5 min on foot along Dotonbori

Five minutes from Namba along Dotonbori. Weekdays 12:00 to 21:00 with no time limit; weekends and holidays 10:00 to 21:00 on a 90-minute table.

Rules of its own. 700 yen per person to sit down, with a magnet and a coaster. Booking recommended rather than required, as in Tokyo.

  3. Café · Rules of its own

    ARTNIA, Higashi-Shinjuku

Square Enix's own shop and café on the ground floor of the building its Tokyo office sits in — a dark room with the crystal from Final Fantasy in the middle of it, goods along one side and a counter along the other. It is the company's front door, which is why it survived when the Akihabara café did not.

    Address
    東京都新宿区新宿6-27-30 新宿イーストサイドスクエア1F
    Getting there
Toei Oedo line, Higashi-Shinjuku, about 3 min on foot

Three minutes from Higashi-Shinjuku on the Oedo line, open 11:00 to 21:00. Not the same place as the Square Enix café that closed in Akihabara in March 2025.

Rules of its own. A café attached to a working office building, so it is quieter than its subject matter suggests. Photograph the room, not the staff or the other tables.

How this list is made

A place is listed when the work, its publisher or the town's own tourism page names it, and the page it was read on is linked with the date it was read. Positions come from OpenStreetMap or from the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan, never from Google.

We never show a frame of a work beside a photograph of a place. The scene is described in words instead, which is also the version a screen reader and three languages can use. How we check and rank, in full.
