How do you get to Nakano Broadway?

Take the JR Chuo line or the Tozai line to Nakano, five minutes from Shinjuku on a rapid train. Leave by the north exit and walk through Nakano Sun Mall, the covered shopping street in front of you: Nakano Broadway starts where it ends.

What is on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th floors?

The ground floor and basement are everyday shops and food. The collector shops are upstairs:

  • 2F: second-hand manga, anime goods, figures, and several Mandarake branches.
  • 3F: more Mandarake branches with vintage toys, dolls and collectibles, plus watch and camera shops.
  • 4F: smaller specialist shops, art galleries and more Mandarake, often quieter.

The exact list changes: each shop is independent. The building page keeps the shops we know, floor by floor: Nakano Broadway on Kaidashi.

What should you not miss at Nakano Broadway?

  • The Mandarake branches: vintage toys, anime cels, idol goods, dolls and cards, each branch with its own specialty.
  • Taco Ché (3F): an independent bookshop for zines and underground comics.
  • The watch and camera shops: Nakano is also a place for second-hand watches and film cameras.
  • Nakano Sun Mall: the covered street from the station, for a snack before or after.

Why are there so many Mandarake shops?

Mandarake started in Nakano Broadway, and instead of one big store it runs many small branches in the building, each with a specialty: vintage toys, cel art, idol goods, dolls, cards, and more. It works like a department store spread over three floors.

Prices follow condition: an item marked as “with box” or “mint” costs more. Read our guide to second-hand chains to understand how Mandarake grades and prices items.

What time should you go?

The building opens at 10:00, but most shops open at 12:00 and close at 20:00. Some shops close on Wednesdays, so a weekday other than Wednesday is ideal. Weekends are busier but still manageable.

What else is around?

Nakano Sun Mall has cafés and cheap restaurants for a break. Around the building, small shops sell figures, cards and anime goods: all of them are on the Nakano page, with card shops and figure shops.

Frequently asked questions

Are the shops open in the morning?

The building opens at 10:00, but most collector shops open at 12:00. Come after noon, or have lunch in the area first.

Is tax-free shopping possible?

Yes in many Mandarake branches and some other shops, from ¥5,000 before tax in the same shop and on the same day. Read how tax-free works.

How long should I plan?

Two to three hours for a first visit. Collectors hunting a specific item easily spend half a day.

Is it worth it if I already visit Akihabara?

Yes: Nakano is quieter and focused on second-hand and vintage items. See our Akihabara guide to compare.
