Every major franchise has official stores in Japan, often grouped in a few places: Tokyo Station's Character Street, Shibuya PARCO, Ikebukuro's Sunshine City and the big stations of Osaka. Many products are exclusive, and new releases sell out fast.

Where can you find several official stores in one place?

Three places save a lot of walking:

  • Tokyo Character Street, in the basement of Tokyo Station (Yaesu side): dozens of small official shops for anime, manga and character brands, including Chiikawa Land, Jump Shop and Pokémon goods.
  • Shibuya PARCO, 6th floor: Nintendo TOKYO, Pokémon Center Shibuya, CAPCOM STORE and other game shops side by side.
  • Sunshine City, Ikebukuro: Pokémon Center Mega Tokyo, the Marvel Store and the huge gachapon floor. See our Ikebukuro guide.

Which Pokémon Center should you visit?

Tokyo has several; each has its own exclusive goods and decorations.

How do you not miss an exclusive release?

Follow the store’s website or social account: release dates, ticket systems and limits are announced there first. On release day, arrive before opening, and have your list ready.

Official store or second-hand: where is the best price?

Official stores sell at list price and have the new items. Once a product is out of stock, the second-hand market takes over: prices can be lower for common items and much higher for rare ones. Our second-hand chains guide explains where to look, and the tax-free guide how to get the 10% back on large purchases.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to book?

Not for regular visits. For big releases, some stores hand out numbered tickets or run lotteries: check their website a few days before.

Do official stores ship abroad?

Rarely from the store itself. Buy in person, or read our shipping guide to send purchases home.

Are there purchase limits?

Often on new releases and popular items, one or a few per person. Limits are posted at the entrance or the counter.

Is the Super Nintendo World shop open without a ticket?

No: the 1-UP Factory is inside Universal Studios Japan, so you need a park ticket. Nintendo's city stores in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto need no ticket.
